Blair is very proud to be a Henderson and always wanted to get married in his Henderson tartan. Our theme developed from there with the bridesmaid’s dresses being a dark forest green and our venue having beautiful outdoor scenery. We decided to go for a natural theme with lots of personalised carved logs for table decorations, leaves for place names and some sparkly gold to give it a bit of something extra- I am all about the sparkles!
I don’t think I have a specific favourite part of the day as there are too many! I remember being so nervous when I was about to walk down the aisle and I just wanted to see Blair and I knew when I did I would feel better.
We both wanted our wedding to reflect us as a couple and our sense of humour, we aren’t too serious however can be when needed! This humour was evident when Blair spoke of the “3 reasons why he loves me”, one of these being the way I clean the bathroom which got a lot of laughs. I also loved our parents giving speeches and all the dodgy dancing at night!
I think the part that sticks most with me was how emotional Blair was during his speech! I also think that’s the part his friends like to bring up too. During his blubbering speech, he managed to announce that we were leaving for Italy the next day- an amazing surprise that I knew nothing about and I’ve always dreamed of going to Venice! It was a beautiful mini moon and we are excited to also go on a Caribbean Cruise for our honeymoon. I feel very lucky!
My advice for future Bride and Grooms is to remember it’s your day and no one else’s however this is easier said than done sometimes. Just take your time on making decisions and the impact these will have on YOUR day, sometimes things can get blown out of proportion so take time to reflect. Make sure you enjoy the planning and try not to get stressed!
Blair and I are extremely close to our family who had a part to play in our up bringing. One of these people includes Blair’s granny May who was the Matriarch of the Henderson family with 7 children, 11 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. While Blair was growing up, she always had the tea on for him coming in from school, including truck loads of his favourite, mince and tatties. She was always a fit woman with a better social life than us, even at 82. She fell ill and at the end of May we found out she had a brain tumour. Even though we were doubtful for a short while, she made it to our wedding (she told all the doctors and nurses she had a wedding to get to so needed home!). May read out a poem while Blair and I tied the knot. A short 5 weeks later May passed. We are so grateful that this woman was not only at our wedding but a part of both of our lives. I am also thankful for her for playing a part in shaping Blair to be the loving and caring man he is today.
From the start of the planning until the end, Blair and I loved spending quality time with our family and close friends, making memories and laughing- which is what it is all about right?
