Beautiful Scottish Garden Wedding

Hello Lovelies, Today’s post is such an exciting one as it is the very first featured wedding that I am lucky enough to share with you. A relaxed and romantic wedding at the couple’s own home, their back garden was the perfect setting for Philippa and David’s gorgeous wedding. A huge thank you to Siobhan Diamond photography for allowing us to share her gorgeous photographs. This is what Philippa had to say about their special day.

David and I met in the most British way possible – a queue! We were queuing to register for our PhD’s at Manchester University. Neither of us were from the area – David hailing from Aberdeen and I’m from Somerset – we struck up conversation and the rest is history.

We brought our beautiful forever home in July 2016 and David proposed to me there in October 2016. We knew from the start that the dream would be to be married at home somehow – it was just a case of organising the details. Our “theme” was very much “home” and “us”. We didn’t want to go down a line of something which didn’t represent who we really are and our partnership.

Every part of the wedding was a joint decision, from the invitations, colours, food and cake. The only thing David had no idea about in advance was Philippa’s dress!

Our suppliers were carefully chosen. As we were not using a “venue” we knew that we had to work with people who we could trust and who understood what we were trying to achieve. We wanted our wedding guests to feel that they had been invited into our home and gardens whilst having a lot of fun and celebrating our special day. All our suppliers took our (sometimes quite crazy and different!) ideas and worked so hard to make them a reality. We did a lot of the preparation ourselves and with our families – we could not have done it without them, especially in the final week! So much work goes into those little details but it is worth it to achieve something that reflects you. It genuinely was the best day of our lives.

Jillian (our hair and makeup artist) was fantastic – as David had spent the night before our big day elsewhere, I was up at 6am to walk the dogs and feed the horses. When Jillian arrived I was literally covered in mud and hay! How on earth she managed to transform me and calm me down into a blushing bride I don’t know… but she is a true miracle worker. Both my beautiful bridesmaids were concerned (having had bad experiences before with other people doing their make up) but they were both SO happy with how Jillian listened to what they wanted and was happy to use their make up or hers which put them at ease and made the whole preparation experience a happy and exciting one.

We got married at our local church and then came home to our gardens where we had erected a wonderful marquee on our tennis court. Our fantastic caterers, Sinclair’s, prepared an amazing meal which was all sourced locally. We ended up dancing the night away to the wonderful music of Iron Broo, with guests local and afar whirling away in a fantastic ceilidh. From the first moments of the day to the last we made memories to last forever.

Now, a year almost to the day we are expecting our first baby any day now and ready to start our next adventure!

My advice to future brides and grooms is to remain true to yourselves. It is so easy to get carried away and end up with something which doesn’t represent you as a couple. The most important thing is that you and your future spouse are surrounded by those you love and enjoy making those vows in front of them. Secondly, I would really recommend a photo album – it is so nice to be able to look back over the memories together and with family and friends rather than having wonderful images sat on a computer somewhere. It’s the most special experience and I wish you all the best of luck – time flies so quickly
