I hope you are all well and enjoying this glorious sunshine, you would almost think it is summer already! I am in full swing with weddings and totally loving it, it is just such nice weather in Scotland right now for a wedding. One thing my brides are asking about lots is false tan. False tan can either be great or it can be a disaster, and on your wedding day you want it to be perfect. Follow my 8 top tips for tanning on your wedding day for glowing success.
1 Do you really want to wear tan?
There can sometimes be a lot of pressure to wear fake tan for your wedding day from MOB’s, bridesmaids, and friends etc., but if you don’t normally wear it then it may not be for you. Pale is interesting and tanned is too; it is totally up to yourself.
2 Have a trial run
Whatever you do don’t just get a spray tan a few days before the wedding without having tried it beforehand. Find a really good tanning expert and have one or two trial runs; this allows you to decide if you really want a false tan and how many days after the tanning application your colour looks best.
3 Exfoliate the night before
The night before your tan exfoliate your whole body, paying particular attention to your hands, feet, elbows, and knees. I love the Sanctuary Spa Hot Sugar Scrub.
4 Hair Removal the day before
If you are going to wax, shave or use hair removal cream do this the day before so that any redness or irritation has calmed down before you have your tan applied.
5 Moisturise the night before
Cover your entire body in a nice, rich moisturiser so that it can soak in overnight. I love this Kiehl’s Creme De Corps body moisturiser. It contains coco butter to soften the skin and sesame oil to moisturise and be absorbed easily by the skin. One of the things I love about this Crème is that it isn’t greasy but is still super hydrating. It only takes a few minutes to be absorbed into your skin so I normally pop it on after I have towel dried from my shower then quickly dry my hair and get dressed.
6 Moisturise the day of
On the day of the tan, after you have showered, I would advise using an oil free moisturiser on your face and dry areas like your hands, feet, knees, and elbows.
7 Wear Loose clothes
Wear loose clothing when going for your tan so that there are no sock or waistband lines. These can rub off your tan before it has had a chance to develop. If you have a low backed or strapless dress, I would also advice not wearing a bra so that the straps do not mess up your tan.
8 Keep your tan
In order to help your tan last it is best to have a cool shower and pat dry. Apply an oil free moisturiser every day to stop your skin from getting dry.
