Today on the blog I am going to be talking about how I like brides to prepare for a makeup trial with myself and a little on how I run my makeup trials. This is perfect to read if you have booked with myself for wedding make-up but also great in general to get you thinking about your makeup trial.
Click here to have a read of my 5 top tips for your wedding makeup trial which has general tips for a makeup trial with any makeup artist.
Look after your skin
The most important thing I try to encourage brides to take away from the trial is a better skincare routine. I have met brides who have told me they sometimes moisturise, that they sometimes take their makeup off, that they wash their face with hand soap, and some even that tell me that they don’t do anything to their skin and just wash it with water in the shower.
I cannot stress enough how important a good skin care routine is. Good skin care leads to good makeup and you honestly cannot have one without the other. Why not have a read of my review of the Kiehls Ultra Facial skin care range.
Before you come to your trial try and implement a good skincare routine. Even if it is just taking your makeup off at night and moisturising every morning and every night, that’s a great first step.
I always do a skin prep facial treatment before I apply makeup, this makes a huge difference but I can only do so much in one treatment. If your skin is really dry or dehydrated or very oily with blocked pores a little bit of work beforehand will make such a difference to your makeup look.
Think about your makeup style
Have a think about your overall wedding day style, do you want your makeup to reflect this? Are you having a vintage theme or a rustic theme, is your wedding traditional and natural or is it bright and bubbly?
Do you normally wear makeup every day or do you save it for special occasions? Do you prefer a more natural and classic makeup look or do you prefer a more glam makeup look with fuller coverage? Don’t worry if you are not 100% sure on colour as we can try out different colours for you, it’s just a good idea to know the overall look you would like.
Tell me about your skin
Do you have any allergies or skin sensitivities? Even if you think it isn’t makeup related it is very important to let me know. If you are allergic to, for example, oranges, there may be orange oil in one of the skin care ingredients I have. If I didn’t know about your allergies this could cause a reaction.
If your skin gets dry or oily then let me know so I can use skin care, makeup and setting sprays to work best with your skin type. I can also advise you on how best to maintain your makeup for your skin type.
What to expect during your trial
I always have some nibbles and a glass of wine or bubbly for you and your maids to enjoy. If you have only booked a trial for yourself and you are bringing along your bridesmaids for advice do let me know so that I can ensure I have enough nibbles for everyone. Also do let me know if you have any dietary requirements.
To start with we will have a consultation where we will discuss your wedding, your style and your hopes and expectations for the makeup. Next we will move onto skin care and then the makeup look. Makeup trials last between 1 hour to an hour and a half.
If there is anything you are not sure about or would like changed with your make up please feel free to tell me. Nothing offends me, a small change in lip colour or an adjustment on your brows will take a few minutes to do and can make your look just perfect for you. It is so important to me to find the perfect wedding day look for you, I really do want to create the makeup look you have been dreaming of so do feel free to make any suggestions you wish.
