8 Top Tips to make your Makeup Artist Happy

How to Make your Makeup Artist Happy

On your wedding day,  it is of course your makeup artist’s job to make you happy and pamper you, but there are some things you can do to help them out and make the whole makeup process run smoothly. Here are my 8 top tips to make your makeup artist happy.

1 – Space for kit and people

Ideally you would have a room that is large enough for your hair and makeup artist to set up and space for your maids to chill out and get ready, or have a separate room for each. You don’t want to have your wedding dress too close to your make up station and you want to have room to move around and stretch your legs after sitting for a while.

In the room ensure that you have the following for your makeup artist:

-Table
-Chairs
-Natural light

2 – Offer them a glass of water

If your makeup artist is with you at 7am this may mean she/he is up at 5am to get ready and drive to your wedding venue. They can be working on their feet through lunch time to ensure that you are all looking your best for a 2pm or 3pm wedding. If I turn up and someone has a glass of water and a piece of fruit or biscuit for me I really appreciate it. A little something always makes my day.

3 – Look after your skin in the run up to your wedding

Good make up starts with good skincare! Although most professional makeup artists will fully prep your skin before makeup, there is only so much you can do on the day. A good skin care routine in the run up to the wedding helps to ensure your skin is in the best possible condition for makeup.

4 – Don’t have any make up on

100% make sure you and your bridesmaids take all your make-up off the night before the wedding. Your skin will look so much better the next day and your makeup artist won’t have to spend time taking on your old make up and can concentrate on using products to make your skin look and feel amazing.

5 – Come for your make-up when you are asked

The day of a wedding is so exciting and there is always so much to do and so many people trying to talk to you. Especially with larger bridal parties or early weddings, timings can be tight. It is really important that you and your bridesmaids and mothers go for makeup when asked so that no time is wasted. You don’t want to end up being late for the main event!

6 – Wear a robe, buttoned shirt or wide necked top

You don’t want to smudge your makeup by removing a tight top so a robe, buttoned shirt or blouse or something loose is great to wear. You can get these personalised and matched up with the whole bridal party.

7 – Tell your artist if you have any allergies

It is really important to let your makeup artist know about any allergies you may have. This does not only mean skin allergies, literally any allergy is important for them to know. For example, if you are allergic to oranges and they have a skin care product with citrus oil in it you could end up with a reaction. The same goes for a latex allergy and some eyelash glues. It is always better to be safe than sorry. If your makeup artist knows about any allergies beforehand they can be better prepared for the day.

8 – Treat your makeup application as time to relax

This is your time just for you. How often do you get to just relax and be pampered? Put your phone down and just chill. Don’t worry about what anyone else is doing or  turn around to talk to people, just enjoy some time to yourself.
