6 Tips For Visiting a Wedding Exhibition

If you are planning a wedding and not sure where to start, then a wedding fayre or exhibition is the perfect place to go! You can meet lots of different wedding suppliers and chat to them about your requirements. You can also see and test out lots of different things from dresses to flowers to cakes to drinks. Here are my 6 tips for visiting a wedding exhibition, featuring The Big Dundee Wedding Exhibition.  I attended this on the 14th and 15th of October and it was so much fun that I had to share it with you all! Read more about it here.

1 – Do your research

How do you know which wedding exhibitions to go to, and where and when they are?

The Big Dundee Wedding Exhibition runs twice a year and has over 100 local suppliers. Also keep an eye on SEM Events for some of Scotland’s biggest wedding exhibitions.

Follow your favourite suppliers on social media to find out where they will be exhibiting. Once you have an idea where you would like to go find out who will be there, what will be happening, and if there are any competitions or giveaways to enter.

2 – Prioritise who you want to see

What suppliers are you looking to book for your wedding? Are you looking for photographers, or do you have one specific photographer in mind?

Go and see the types of supplier and the specific suppliers that you would like to talk to first, just in case you run out of time. This is a not only a great opportunity to see what they have on show, but also to talk to them and get a feel if they are the right person for you.

If there isn’t enough time to talk you could always book a consultation another day to discuss your wedding properly.

3 – Check out all of the live experiences

At the Big Dundee Wedding Exhibition there was a live catwalk, couples making their own wedding rings with Scarlett Erskine, bridal parties making floral head crowns with Bluebell and Birch, and mini hair and make-up trials with Jillian Elizabeth Hair and Makeup Artistry.

Look at the website and social media pages for the exhibitions you intend to go to and see what is available. Live catwalks are a great chance to see shoes, dresses, veils and accessories in action. There can be workshops, demonstrations and tastings which are just perfect to learn more about the suppliers and products and services they offer.

4 – Plan who you will take with you

Have a think about who is best to take with you to a wedding exhibition. Although it is a fun day it can be a long one, with lots of standing and walking around and what can seem like information overload. Make sure who you bring is up to the challenge and is interested in your day.

It is always great to go and have a girly day with your bridesmaids, friends, and the mothers, however don’t forget your other half! Even if you are doing most of the planning for the day your other half might enjoy going, and let’s face it, who doesn’t like to sample wedding cake!

5 – Plan what to take with you

Standing and walking all day is no easy task and you don’t want to be at the exhibition wishing you had something you have left at home. Here are a few things I recommend bringing:

-Comfy shoes – standing in heels all day is no easy task, be kind to your feet
-Bottle of water- it can get warm and tiring so its great to stay hydrated
-Your diary/ calendar – to check dates and make appointments with potential suppliers
-A bag – it is great to have somewhere to put all of the leaflets and business cards you collect
-Your purse – there can often be amazing discounts and deals for bookings made on the day

6 – Enjoy yourself

It can seem overwhelming, especially in the early stages of planning a wedding, so please don’t forget to enjoy the wedding fayres and exhibitions. This is such a wonderful opportunity to get together with people who are also excited about your wedding, to have a glass of bubbly and some cake, and to find out all of the wonderful things you can have at your big day.

Have you been to a wedding fayre or exhibition yet? Did you use any of these tips or do you have any tips of your own? I hope you have enjoyed my 6 top tips for visiting a wedding exhibition, and I would love to know what you thought. Let me know below.
